US states generally follow a combination of NFPA standards and OSHA regulations for portable fire extinguishers. The foundational code for selection, installation, and maintenance is NFPA 10, while where and when they are required is dictated by the NFPA Life Safety Code and local fire codes. There are also other codes that cover other aspects of fire protection.
The New Mexico MS-12 Fire Protection Systems exam (administered by PSI Services) covers the installation, maintenance, and repair of water-based fire suppression systems, alarms, and related components. You will have 135 minutes to complete 80 questions, and a score of 75% is required to pass. This book provides practice questions with explanations on the relevant codes, standards, rules and guidelines.
