The Commission for Case Manager Certification CCMC administers the Certified Case Manager certification exam. A certified case manager CCM is both a specialized social worker and a healthcare professional who oversees and coordinates the continued care of clinical patients. A CCM works to facilitate patient care by assessing patient needs, evaluating treatment options, creating treatment plans, coordinating care, and gauging progress.

The CCMC conducted a comprehensive Job Task Analysis in 2024 to ensure the exam reflects the current practice of case management . This process, which included input from over 2,000 practicing case managers, resulted in an updated exam blueprint that went into effect starting with the August 2025 testing window.
The six new knowledge domains are:
- Care Management
- Reimbursement Methods
- Psychosocial Concepts and Support Systems
- Quality and Outcomes Evaluation and Measurements
- Rehabilitation Concepts and Strategies
- Ethical, Legal, and Practice Standards
